What is SQO-OSS?

Originally funded by the European Commission, the Software Quality Observatory for Open Source Software exists to better inform users and developers of Open Source of the quality-related issues regarding software. Our primary method for achieving this is through the development of "Alitheia Core", an automated platform for quality assessment.

Today, the SQO-OSS project has moved to an open development model so that we may better engage with the needs of our users. Current contributors to Alitheia Core development are based across Europe; from Greece to the UK and we're always excited to have new contributors join us.

Alitheia Core and Metrics

The primary aim of the SQO-OSS project is the development of the "Alitheia Core" automated software quality checking platform. By analysing public data sources relating to Open Source projects (email, bug tracking data, code, version control metadata) the system utilises metric-based assessment techniques to assess quality characteristics.

The abstract overview of the system, above, shows how the crucial components for data acquisition, processing and data storage interact. User interaction with the system is through the web browser and, shortly, through integration with the Eclipse IDE.
